THE WORLD METHODIST COUNCIL
"Year of Wesleyan and Methodist Education"
WMC-EC11/01
Dear members, partners, and friends of the WMC Education Committee,
All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn unto Yahweh;
And all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.
(Psalm 22:27)

Happy 2011!
This year we will have a glimpse of what the Psalmist is telling us! The large family that comprises churches, institutions, and individuals in the Wesleyan and Methodist traditions will gather once again, this time in Durban, South Africa on August 2-8. The World Methodist Council will meet on August 2-4 and the World Methodist Conference will happen on August 4-8. This will be an international festival that will include worship, solidarity, social service, global awarenes, and moments of education. This is a great opportunity, which happens only every 5 years!
The Education Committee will be promoting a series of events during the World Methodist Conference. Here is the proposed program:
August 2-3: Meetings of the Education Committe within the World Methodist Council's agenda.
August 4: 3:30-5:15pm SEMINAR 1 - Theme: Wesleyan & Methodist Education in Africa (Bishop Z. Siwa, Dr. R. Murapa)
5:30-7:30pm SEMINAR 2 - Theme: Wesleyan & Methodist Education around the World (Dr. Lothar Elsner, Dr. Paul Shew)
August 5: 5:30-7:30pm CELEBRATION - Theme: 2011: Year of Wesleyan & Methodist Education (Dr. Ted Brown, Dr. Clovis Castro)
August 6: 3:45-6:15pm WORKSHOP 1 - Theme: Education and the Methodist Social Principles (Dr. Neal Christie)
August 6: 3:45-6:15pm WORKSHOP 2 - Theme: Passing our DNA: Education and the Wesleyan Heritage (Rev. George Lockwood)
You are all invited to participate! We have secured these moments and events to make sure that many voicces are heard, many themes discussed, many contacts made, and many concrete actions flourish as a result of these interactions. You are encouraged to use this opportunity to become more involved in the Education Committee. Please contact the chair of the Education Committee to confirm your participation, make suggestions, organize exhibits, volunteer for activities or request information.
Let us all celebrate 2011 as the "Year of Wesleyan & Methodist Education"!
